Letton Kerb & Channel and Pak'nSave Rolleston - Case Study

As professional kerbing and concreting specialists, we at Letton Kerb & Channel are always looking for our next big challenge. We recently wrapped up a major project for Pak'nSave in Rolleston – reportedly the largest Pak’nSave in the South Island.
Located on the corner of Levi Road and Lincoln Rolleston Road, this new addition to the Rolleston township includes an 8100sqm store complete with 485 car parks, 18 self-service checkouts, 8 staffed checkouts, a dedicated click and collect area and EV charging stations.
On The Job
Understandably, the concrete work for this job was extensive, including just under 2 kilometres of kerbing and roughly 2,500 square metres of concrete footpath. We also completed around 50 treatments and just over 2,000 square metres of concrete sealing work, including trolley bays.
This was our first major job working directly for Naylor Love, the main builder, rather than as a subcontractor. We knew making a good impression on this first direct contract was important, as any delays would have impacted other contractors down the line. To keep up with the demanding schedule, we brought in a couple of subcontractors to help out - this proved essential for completing the work efficiently and keeping the builders happy!

Challenges Faced
We faced several challenges throughout the project, including:
- Tight timelines and deadlines
- Coordinating with numerous other trades
- Difficult ground conditions in the Rolleston area
- Problematic design elements
- Winter weather with heavy rainfall
Tackling these challenges head-on, the timeline results were impressive! We finished approximately five weeks ahead of schedule, despite working through winter with challenging weather. The entire project took just over six months from start to finish. Early completion like this is rare for large-scale projects involving multiple trades!
We are proud to have been a part of what is a historic development for the Selwyn district and are pleased to be able to showcase our ability to handle large commercial concrete and kerbing projects that benefit the community.
